I am more
or less certain that this is a Fourth Class parcel rate reserved for merchandise.
The 44c postage using 2c x 2 Washington and 5c x 8 Grants Bureau issues
good for 36c postage, 36 ounces weight which is maximum weight allowed
for Third Class Parcels (1 cent per ounce plus 8c registration fee). Maximum
weight allowed for this class is 72 ounces.
The Second
Class Rate is reserved for newspapers and periodicals while the Third Class
Rate is for printed matter other than books and periodicals, also with
72 ounces maximum weight but with a rate of 1 cent per 2 ounces weight.
Parcel wrapper
for this period not easy and hats of the buyer for landing a big fish at
a cheap price. Okay, the item has stamp faults but to me it is only trivial
since it has all the information required to qualify this as a beautiful
postal history piece. I am a postal history addict and all the particulars
that I want and look for are on this piece: the "Soldier's Parcel" endorsement,
dispatch and entry postmarks, the arrival auxiliary marking. Ebay at
$37.00 - A REAL BARGAIN! To the others who collect early PI postal history,
sorry guys you missed this one. |
